Accepting American Express: 13,000 Taxis in Dubai Now License RTA Franchisees

The Shift in Taxi Payments: Dubai Welcomes American Express

Have you recently hopped into a taxi in Dubai and noticed a change in how you can pay? If you’ve got an American Express card, your ride just got a lot smoother! Over 13,000 taxis in Dubai, operated by franchises licensed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), now accept American Express payments. This is big news for both locals and travelers.

So, what does this really mean? Previously, taxi rides might have felt a bit limiting when it came to payment options. But with this new agreement between American Express Middle East (AEME) and franchise companies like National Taxi, Dubai Taxi Corporation, and others, you’ll find it easier than ever to pay for your fare. Graziela Martins, AEME’s Country Head for the UAE, stated that this step is all about increasing where American Express is accepted in the UAE. And it’s not just benefiting the cardholders; taxi companies can tap into a new pool of customers eager to pay with their cards.

This change also aligns well with the RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the customer experience. According to Mr. Khaled Al Awadhi, the Director of Transportation Systems at RTA, offering more payment options in taxis is crucial for meeting the needs and preferences of both residents and tourists. It makes commuting around the city more convenient, especially for those who may not carry cash.

Importantly, this isn’t just a local trend. American Express has been expanding its merchant base globally, tripling the number of accepting merchants since 2017. With more than 89 million locations worldwide, cardholders can enjoy greater freedom wherever they go.

And let’s not forget the value this brings to the traveling experience. If you’re a tourist exploring Dubai, having the ability to pay easily in taxis can significantly enhance your journey. No fumbling for cash, no worries about exchange rates—just a simple swipe or tap, and you’re on your way.

In today’s fast-paced world, convenience is key, and this initiative by American Express not only caters to a modern payment culture but also indicates the growth potential of the UAE’s tourism and transport sectors.
